Living with Braces

Now that your child has their braces, you would have to help them live with it. Initially, they will feel uncomfortable wearing them, but slowly their mouth will get used to them. Living with braces is not hard, but you will need to help your children pick up new habits.

Pain and discomfort

Braces are made carefully to eliminate pain as much as possible. But, there are still chances that your child might experience some pain or discomfort at a given point, and that is when you will need to manage the situation. Get some over-the-counter painkillers from your child’s pediatric dentists for such situations. Experiencing pain and discomfort post braces treatment is quite common, and there is nothing to worry about.

Can my child eat everything with braces?

No, as there are brackets and wires in the braces where food might get stuck, there are a few dietary restrictions. Here are a few things your child must avoid when they have their braces on:

  • Sticky food

  • Food and drinks that might cause staining

  • Hard food

  • Chewy food

To know what your child can and cannot eat while wearing braces, consult their pediatric dentist. They will give you a list of the same.

TIP for Parents

Having your child visit the dentist visit for regular cleanings, fluoride treatments, and sealants to prevent tooth decay can save you money and reduce the need for further dental treatments.
