What is the best age to get braces for my kids?

Every child is unique, and so are their needs. During your child’s regular visit to the dentist’s office, their pediatric dentist will thoroughly examine their mouth and let you know if they need braces. Generally, children between the ages of 9 and 14 should look at getting braces. Adjusting their teeth alignment and jaw position is easier before they have gone through puberty.

However, if your teen needs braces, there is nothing to worry about. It might take extra time to align their teeth as they have already settled into the post-puberty position, but that does not mean they cannot avail of orthodontic treatment.

How to care for the braces?

Whether your child or teen is getting braces, it is essential to care for and maintain them properly. Food can easily get stuck on wired braces; if not cleaned properly, your teeth can become a site for cavities. Brushing after having meals is a must, and so is flossing. You should also take your kids to the dentist for regular cleanings and cavity checks. Avoid all the food and beverages that your dentists have recommended not to have. And in case, there is any issue with the braces, like a loose wire or brackets, take your child to the dental office immediately.

TIP for Parents

Having your child visit the dentist visit for regular cleanings, fluoride treatments, and sealants to prevent tooth decay can save you money and reduce the need for further dental treatments.
